Mobile Suit Gundam
Mobile Suit Gundam is an iconic Japanese multimedia franchise whose story started in 1979 with a canceled TV series that later rebounded and became a worldwide phenomenon with a plethora of anime, manga, video games and most importantly, model kits. Following the success of TV rerurns and a compilation movie trilogy for the original Mobile Suit Gundam, sequels began appearing in 1985, starting with Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. Since then, hardly a year has passed without some form of new animated Gundam content. The franchise found a new North American audience in 2000 when New Mobile Report Gundam Wing aired on Cartoon Network's Toonami block. Now in its fourth decade, the franchise is expanding again with a new live action movie co-produced with Legendary Pictures. On the animation side, Sunrise is currently producing compilation movies for Gundam Reconguista in G, plus the Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway theatrical trilogy and the Cucuruz Doan's Island movie. A new TV series titled Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury will air in 2022, along with compilation specials for the 2015 series Iron-Blooded Orphans.
