MSV (Mobile Suit Variation) is the first original design series in the Gundam franchise. Debuting in April 1983, MSV featured mecha designer Kunio Okawara’s variations of Earth Federation Forces and Principality of Zeon suits from the original Mobile Suit Gundam series. These designs were released as plastic model kits and included developmental histories and ace pilot biographies written by Mashiro Oda. Multiple MSV designs made their animated debut in the 1985 series Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam and have since been included in subsequent anime, manga and video games. The MSV concept is a regular feature of the Gundam franchise, with many anime series having an accompanying line of variations.
