Technical and Historical Notes

The RX-160G Byarlant Isolde is a customized space use version of the RX-160 Byarlant that is first fielded by the Titans in UC 0087 during the Gryps Conflict. The Byarlant Isolde’s name is inspired by the mythological tale Tristan and Iseult, which also lends its name to the RX-78AN-01 Gundam AN-01 Tristan. The Byarlant Isolde is used by Birnam, a private army belonging to Scharnhorst Buch, founder of the Buch Concern. It is unknown how Birnam acquires the base Byarlant unit. The Byarlant Isolde’s backpack has been reconfigured for space use and equipped with a pair of propellant tanks. The Byarlant Isolde retains the original’s armaments of a pair of mega particle guns and beam sabers. In UC 0096, Byarlant Isolde pilot Walter Fermo joins his brother, Tristan pilot Quentin Fermo, in attacking the Earth Federation Forces’ special unit Mastema at the former Neo Zeon asteroid Axis. Walter engages former Neo Zeon test pilot Danton Hyleg, who recovers an AMX-011S Zaku III Custom that he previously piloted years earlier.
