Zeta Gundam Ep. 10: Reunion

0
Summary

Several Nemos stand guard outside Amman’s spaceport following the Titans attack. Kamille continues to tinker with the Haro and thinks about how these robots remember things from long ago, but he’s forgotten things that happened recently. Emma visits him to deliver the news that construction is beginning on the Gundam Mk-II’s new Flying Armor. Emma tells Kamille he should get more accustomed to the military to avoid future “corrections” from Wong. Emma tells Kamille that the crew have been too soft oh him because they’re not regular forces. After donning pilot suits, they meet with Astonaige, who explains that the Flying Armor is a prototype atmospheric reentry craft based on Kamille’s Zeta Gundam design. Kamille asks when they’re heading to Earth, and Astonaige answers that this will be their next destination after departing Amman today. Emma asks where on Earth, and Astonaige explains that it’s Jaburo, which is now a Titans rear line base. Kamille sees that the Flying Armor has other features in addition to the waverider, and Astonaige explains that it can be used as a hovercraft for battle on Earth. Emma talks to Quattro, who explains that they captured a Titans ship to prepare for the attack on Jaburo. She asks if they’re getting any help from Granada, and Quattro answers that six ships are coming from there. Quattro mentions that in total they’ll have a force of about 80 mobile suits, and Emma asks about attacks on Earth causing pollution. Quattro explains that they won’t use any chemical or biological weapons, and if they can wipe out the Titans it’ll end the conflict. Emma thinks it would be better to destroy Gryps, and Quattro disagrees, but she suspects he doesn’t really support this operation. Quattro mentions that there’s a possibility that the Republic of Zeon could ally itself with the Titans, so they have to crush the problem at its source. As the Alexandria docks inside Granada, Jamaican talks to Gady about how the Marasai could’ve been used by the AEUG to test their mobile suits, and Gady speculates that Anaheim is giving high performance suits to the AEUG. Jamaican notes that this way Anaheim comes out ahead regardless of which side wins the war. Kacricon tells Jerid that Jamaican has granted him permission to launch if he tests the Marasai, so Kacricon asks him to join his operation. His plan is to use a delayed attack and have two suits attack at the same time but make it seem like one. Jerid comments that he can’t face Lila if he gets kicked out of the Titans. An EFF officer tells Jamaican that the Sichuan departed unexpectedly after receiving new orders from Gryps, but they didn’t file a destination. The officer asks for the ship’s destination for record keeping, but Jamaican answers that it’s a military secret and dismisses her. Gady hands Jamaican binoculars to look at a ship and explains that it’s the Sichuan, but painted in different colors. Jamaican decides to launch, and when Gady asks about Kacricon’s operation, Jamaican says it’ll be a nice present for when they leave the Moon. The Alexandria and a Salamis take off and prepare to attack the Argama. Kacricon and Jerid launch in their Marasais, followed by a team of Hi-Zacks. The Alexandria fires missiles at Amman just as the Argama begins to depart. After the missiles hit, a Titans pilot in a Recon Type Zaku reports that the Argama is unable to launch. While Apolly works to clear debris with his Rick Dias, Quattro launches in the Hyaku-Shiki, followed by several Nemos and Kamille in the Gundam Mk-II. Quattro spots the Recon Type Zaku and stabs it through the cockpit with his beam saber. Wong pilots a Junior Mobile Suit and requests that it be fitted with anti-air artillery. Jerid spots the Gundam Mk-II, and Kacricon tells him to ignore the other enemy suits so they can lure Kamille away. Kacricon shoots at Kamille and forces him to take cover behind a rock formation. He then attacks from behind, forcing Kamille to head in Jerid’s direction. A Marasai does a flyby attack on Kamille, then suddenly reappears in front of him. Kamille can’t believe it turned so fast and blocks a ramming attack. He then tries to block a beam saber and has his shield cut in half. One Marasai speeds in one direction while another jumps, which makes Kamille realize he’s fighting two units. He sees a trap laid out for him and instead uses his thrusters to create a cloud of dirt. Jerid jumps in to attack and comes under fire, suffering damage. A Hi-Zack kicks one of the Junior Mobile Suits and destroys it, and Quattro tells Emma to defend the fleet while he goes to support Kamille. The Argama and Radish take off from the spaceport, and Torres reports to Henken that the Minovsky particle density is too thick to contact Kamille.

Kacricon pins Kamille to the ground and tells him he won’t live long enough to become a great pilot. Kacricon is then hit by a hyper beam gun shot fired from Wong’s Junior Mobile Suit. Kacricon moves in to attack Wong and comes under fire from the Hyaku-Shiki. Jerid wants to attack separately since the plan failed, but he’s forced back by Kamille’s vulcans. Quattro tells Kamille that he’s drifted too far away because the Argama has already launched. Wong tells them to carry out the plan while everyone else defends Amman, and Quattro tells Kamille that they’re returning to the ship. Quattro and Kamille jump away just before a Titans missile volley hits Amman. Jerid is annoyed that they got away, but Kacricon tells him they missed their chance and have to return to the Alexandria. Jamaican sees video of the AEUG ships escaping and wonders where they’re going. Henken asks if the Alexandria and Bosnia were destroyed by the Granada troops, and Torres answers that he’s received no confirmation of destroyed ships. Quattro enters the bridge and tells Henken that’s too much to expect from a fleet overloaded with mobile suits. Henken decides to wait half an hour to see if there’s any pursuit before proceeding to the rendezvous point. Henken calls Kamille and tells him that he did a good job at Amman and that the Argama wouldn’t have escaped without him. Henken tells Kamille to stay on duty a little longer and then get some rest, and Emma tells Kamille he fought well. Roberto greets Kamille by calling him a Newtype, and Kamille asks him not to say that, even as a joke. Kamille wants to go check on Haro, and Roberto offers to cover for him. Caesar reports spotting a ship and mobile suit-like object, so Henken calls Quattro. Kamille runs into Quattro, who orders him to go on standby, and he hears Caesar confirming that the ship is the Temptation. Kamille recognizes that as Bright’s ship, and Quattro tells him to come along. Kamille then launches in the Gundam Mk-II, followed by Quattro in the Hyaku-Shiki. Torres then launches the Mega Bazooka Launcher, and Quattro grips onto it and activates its thruster. The Temptation is rocked by an explosion and fires its machineguns, but Bright tells his copilot not to waste ammo. Kamille and Quattro approach the Temptation and are attacked by Paptimus Scirocco’s high speed mobile armor Messala. Quattro docks with the Mega Bazooka Launcher and feels pressure from Scirocco while trying to target him. Kamille fires several shots at the Messala, and it in turn hits the Temptation. Quattro fires the Mega Bazooka Launcher at Scirocco and misses. He then tells Kamille to fire extinguishing spray on the Temptation’s engine to put out a fire. Bright addresses the shuttle’s passengers, which include Fa, that they’ve been rescued. All the passengers and crew are then transferred to the Argama, and Astonaige asks Kamille about the mobile armor they fought. Kamille says that he couldn’t even identify the mobile armor or make contact, but Astonaige notes that given the size of Gryps, the Titans could field all sorts of different units. Kamille leaves to take a shower and stops when he sees Bright shaking hands with Quattro. Bright comments that he’s once again become a captain who lost his ship, and Quattro tells him not to feel bad about the White Base. Bright says it still doesn’t change the fact that it was destroyed, and he calls Quattro a captain, to which Quattro corrects that he’s a lieutenant. Quattro introduces Kamille as the pilot of the Gundam Mk-II, and Bright thanks him for saving them. As they’re about to shake hands, Fa tackles Kamille with a forceful hug. Fa cries and says she thought she would never see him again, so he asks what’s wrong. She tells him that Bask has taken her parents hostage because they know she and Kamille are friends. Kamille comments that Bask would do something like this, and Fa mentions that Bright saved her. Kamille curses the Titans.

Commentary

The Argama’s time on the Moon ends, but not without one last attempt by the Titans to stop them. The AEUG is moving full speed ahead on the plan to attack Jaburo, and even Quattro attempts poorly to sell it to Emma. Despite his nuisance behavior earlier and the beating of Kamille, credit is due to Wong for risking himself by fighting so exposed in a Junior Mobile Suit. Kacricon came up with a good idea to use the Moon’s terrain to disguise two Marasais as one, but of course Kamille figured it out eventually. We see some new equipment in the form of the Hyaku-Shiki’s Mega Bazooka Launcher, but it doesn’t prove very effective in its first outing. That’s to be expected given that Scirocco’s Messala is no slow moving target. Although Scirocco plays a small role here conducting hit-and-run attacks, this schemer will become much more important later on. After a substantial absence, we finally see the return of Bright and Fa. Bright speaks with Quattro and accidentally calls him captain, which raises the question of if he knows (or suspects) that Quattro is Char. Fa and Kamille’s reunion proves to not be under the best of circumstances, given that the Titans have taken her parents hostage as a way to get to Kamille. There really is no limit to what Bask will do to achieve his objectives.
