The RX-78-01[N] Gundam Local Type (North American Type) was a ground combat mobile suit developed from surplus parts from the Earth Federation Forces’ secret RX Plan. The RX-78-01[N] was constructed for endurance tests on Earth. The North American Type featured a twin eye camera system, and a visor was equipped to protect against dust and flashes of light. Its armaments included a machine gun, shoulder cannon, a shield and three beam sabers. In UC 0079, Zeon forces in a North American desert region encountered a black Gundam-type mobile suit that defeated them single-handedly. After the war, former Zeon soldier Vasily Bosch analyzed the battle data and concluded that the mysterious black suit was an RX-78-01[N], although the EFF maintained no official records on the suit’s existence.
