During the Gryps War of UC 0087, Anaheim Electronics developed next generation transforming mobile suits for the AEUG resistance group under the Project Zeta banner. One of the designs, codenamed MSN-001 Delta Gundam, was canceled when the transformation mechanism proved too difficult to implement. The design was retooled into the non-transforming MSN-00100 Hyaku-Shiki, which was used by the AEUG during the Gryps War and First Neo Zeon War. In UC 0090, Anaheim returned to the drawing board and produced the transforming MSN-001A1 Delta Plus. The Delta Plus could transform into a waverider mode similar to the MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam, which allowed it to enter the atmosphere on its own and fly unassisted around the Earth. The Delta Plus also utilized a biosensor, which was less advanced than Neo Zeon versions and showed no performance improvement with regular pilots. The Delta Plus’ armaments included vulcan guns, a beam rifle, beam sabers/guns and a shield that mounted a beam cannon and 2-tube grenade launcher.

The Delta Plus’ design made it difficult to incorporate into a mobile suit team, and in April UC 0096 it was transferred to the Londo Bell ship Nahel Argama to replenish its fighting strength after a costly battle with Neo Zeon forces at the Industrial 7 space colony. The Delta Plus was assigned to Riddhe Marcenas, a member of the Marcenas political dynasty whose RGZ-95 ReZEL was destroyed during the battle. Riddhe used the Delta Plus to make an unauthorized trip to Earth with Mineva Lao Zabi to allow her to meet with his father, politician Ronan Marcenas. Later, the Delta Plus was heavily damaged in a cramped fight aboard the Garuda against Marida Cruz’s RX-0 Gundam Unicorn 02 Banshee. After the fight, Riddhe was assigned to the re-equipped and redesignated RX-0[N] Gundam Unicorn 02 Banshee Norn.
