Technical and Historical Notes

The RX-77-1A Guncannon A was an early version of the Earth Federation Forces' RX-77-2 Guncannon mobile suit from the Operation V development project. The Guncannon A was designed as a mid-range fire support unit. It was armed with a pair of back-mounted cannons, a vulcan gun, missile pod and beam rifle. The Guncannon A was given thick armor instead of standard close-range weaponry such as the beam saber used by the RX-78-2 Gundam. This caused a natural weight increase in the unit, which in turn caused the mobility to drop. Since the EFF engineers required thick armor and good mobility, the proposal was brought back to the drawing board.
