Technical and Historical Notes

The AMX-104GG R-GyaGya was a custom Gunpla built by Kaoruko Sazaki of team Song Dynasty Vase. It was primarily inspired by the AMX-104 R-Jarja from the 1986-87 anime TV series Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ. However, Kaoruko also incorporated elements from Mobile Suit Gundam’s YMS-15 Gyan, a Gunpla she and her older brother Susumu were both obsessed with (to the point that she was known by the nickname “Gyanko,” or Gyan girl). The R-GyaGya mounted a pair of shields on its shoulders similar to the Gyan’s, which were equipped with missiles and beam cutters and could be handheld. The Gunpla’s other armaments included a pair of Gatling guns, a beam saber and a twin beam sword. Kaoruko’s team was eliminated from the qualifiers for the 13th Gunpla Battle Japanese U-19 Championship, but in the following year she created another Gyan-inspired unit, the YMS-15KRT02 Gyancelot.
