Keys are for Other Mecha
by Ben

We've touched on the issue of security in previous issues of Mecha
Musings, and the one constant we found was that, especially in the
Gundam universe, it's a problem. Recently, with the direction SEED DESTINY went, I've found myself looking into new series to dig into about Mecha. So I once again found myself in the GaoGaiGar universe, watching the new TV airing of GaoGaiGar Final: Grand Glorious Gathering. As I was watching, and realizing that Takara is still the man when it comes to Transformers, It also occurred to me that… THESE PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT SECURITY!
Guy's armor is kept in a locked safe, which only works with a G-stone
to unlock it… no one else can use this armor or weaponry, and that's a
good security system. On top of that, the guy has a whole support
team, and each and every part of his setup is kept at different, secure locations. Each different machine has its own support location. On top of this, the transformation sequence to turn GaiGar or GaoFar into GaoGaiGar has to be initiated from an outside location. Some nutcase can't just plug socket A into socket B and make GaoGaiGar.
Evil Genius A: Now that I've stolen all of GaoGaiGar's parts, I can make GaoGaiGar!
Guy: No you cant, they didn't push the big button under glass on our
orbiting space station.. HAHAHAHA…..
Evil Genius A: well………damn.
And on top of that, none of GaoGaiGar's cool weapons and toys can be
used without authorization either. You don't just suddenly give away a
dimensional splitter like the dividing driver do you? No, of course you
don't. And you definitely don't leave the hammer with the gravitational weight of a black hole in the hands of any one person. You have both a key AND a key card, in the possession of two different people that both have to be cleared before you can use them. Now THAT is a good security system. The folks at GGG got it all figured out.
Now I'll admit, they weren't pioneers. We have to hark back to the days
of Voltron for that. How smart was it to require five people all with
synchronized keys to make Voltron? The chances of getting five evil
people together in a room, let alone to pilot a robot together is
just… impossible! Now that's a security system worth mentioning!
Until the day Gundams require five people to activate them all with
synchronized keys.. they just won't be safe from the hands of evil.
