Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to our Frequently Asked Questions area. Here we will try to answer all general questions we receive. If you have a general question, check the FAQ first before sending us an e-mail. Most of your questions can be answered here.

General Site Questions

Q: How do I contact you?
A: If you have any questions, we'll be glad to help wherever possible. However, we ask that you do two things before attempting to contact us. First, always read the FAQ, as many of the questions we get can be answered here. When sending e-mail, please make sure you address the mail to the right person. Check the Staff Info page to see who to contact about what.

Q: May I link to you? Will you link to me?
A: Yes, you may link to us. There is no need to ask permission. You can either have a text link, or if you like you can use our banner. As far as linking to you, we don't generally accept link submissions. If we stumble upon your site during our travels and like it, we will link to you. If you have a well-designed site that shows creativity and has a lot of work put into it, then you can email us and we will evaluate it. This doesn't mean that you can slap together some Tripod site with some pictures and expect a link from us though. Hard work is what made this site what it is, and anyone else who does a good job on their site will be recognized for it.

Q: May I use any of your images?
A:
You may not use the images we made ourselves, such as buttons and logos. We do not own the other images (screenshots, scans), so you are free to use them on your website. We only ask that you put a link back to us on the same page as the image. Many of our mecha cutouts took hours to create, so we desire due credit for our work. Do NOT link directly to our images; that is bandwidth theft and puts a huge strain on our server. If you want to use them, copy them to your own server. Our linking rule also applies if you are posting on a message board. Do NOT make image links in your posts as it also takes up bandwidth. We ask that you instead make a clickable link.

Q: May I use any of your reviews or mecha profiles?
A:
No. Our written content copyrighted material, and it is prohibited to reproduce it without our consent. We work hard on our content, and we don't appreciate people stealing it. If you want to create a website covering the same material we do, make it your own work and not ours. If we find you stealing our content, you will receive a warning. If you persist in your actions, we will have you shut down.

Q: Would you send me files?
A:
Sorry, we don't have time to send anyone files. If you want images that are on the site, feel free to take them. If you're asking for reviews, don't even bother.

Q: Would you help me design my website?
A:
Sorry, we can't do that. We're way too busy with this website to help anyone create one.

Q: Would you please put up _________ series on the website for me to download?
A: No, we will never do that because putting up multimedia such as 'full episodes' violates the copyright of the creators and is illegal.

Q: When will _________ section be completed?
A:
This question is almost totally pointless, because we have no set plan or firm dates for when an area will be completed. We have to make the website fit in to our busy schedules as best as we can, so things can't always be updated so quickly. If a section isn't finished it's because we don't have the materials to finish it or are too busy to work on it. Basically, we'll get to it when we get to it.

Q: Would you tell me about _________ series?
A:
We'd be happy to answer any question to the best of our ability. However, if the question is related to a series we've reviewed, please check the site first. A question like "How many episodes does Gundam X have?" can be answered on the website. So just make sure you check the website before e-mailing us.

Q: Would you please review _________ series?
A:
We review series that we like and think that other people might like. But we won't review a series if we don't like it or just because someone asks us to. If you have a question about Evangelion or Zoids relating to this, scroll down please.

Q: Where can I buy _________ series?
A:
All the domestic anime that we have reviewed are available in almost all stores nationwide. If you prefer online shopping at a discount, we offer the Store to help you out. Right Stuf offers good discounts on the domestic anime we've reviewed. For anime that has not been released domestically, try an internet search for fan sources. Do not ask us where to get anime that hasn't been released here yet.

Q: What programs do you use to create the website?
A:
All pages are created using Macromedia Dreamweaver, and all graphics are edited with Adobe Photoshop. Both programs are recommended for their power and ease of use.

Q: Why did you change the name of the website?
A:
When we originally launched the site in early 2000, we intended to have an even balance of fantasy book and anime reviews. Much has changed in the last few years, including the focus of the site. Since mecha is such an important part of the site now, we felt it would be appropriate to change the name.

Q: Why did you remove some sections?
A:
The answer to this ties in to the above question. Since we changed the focus of the site, we decided we would trim some of the fat off of our massive reviews. We no longer intend to update the sections containing book and video game reviews, so we decided to remove them. Babylon 5 was removed to keep the site strictly anime, and Card Captor Sakura and Dragon Ball were removed from the Manga section because we will not be updating those areas. Also, the About section was merged with Rants to form a new section, Features.

Q: Would you give me Mika Akitaka's email address?
A:
We simply cannot do that. If we made his email address public, his inbox would be flooded. Doing this would discourage any mecha designer from ever contacting us again. I also cannot forward artwork to Mr. Akitaka for much the same reason.

Series Specific Questions

Evangelion
Q: Will you make a section for Neon Genesis Evangelion?
A: No. It's not that we don't like Evangelion, but it's been covered on many other sites in the last few years. We prefer to cover series here that are not as well known and haven't been covered to death everywhere.

Gundam
Q: When is the new Gundam series going to come out?
A:
Right now the newest series in Japan is Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY, which is set for a U.S. release in late 2005.

Q: What's the connection between Gundam and Gundam Wing?
A:
There is no connection between Mobile Suit Gundam and Gundam Wing. Mobile Suit Gundam and its sequels use the Universal Century calendar, while Gundam Wing is an alternate universe series that uses the After Colony calendar.

Q: Where can I get Gundam episodes?
A:
There are plenty of Gundam DVDs available in the U.S. For more information about availability, check the Store.

Q: Why are the Mobile Suit Gundam DVD's dub only?
A:
The reason that the Mobile Suit Gundam DVD's are dub only is that there is no Region 2 version available in Japan. Sunrise fears that Japanese fans would import the cheaper Region 1 version, so they prohibited Bandai Entertainment from placing a Japanese audio track on the DVD's.

Q: What's with the names of the Gundams in Gundam Wing?
A:
Thanks to Bandai's model kits, there's a lot of confusion about the names of the Gundams in this series. The names they say in the show are the actual names. There is no such thing as Wing Zero Custom, Heavyarms Custom, Serpent Custom, etc. The 'custom' label was devised by Bandai to distinguish the new Endless Waltz models from the ones based on the TV show.

Macross
Q: Where can I buy Macross DVDs?
A:
Most of Macross is available now in the U.S. on DVD. The original series has been remastered and released on DVD in a boxed set by AnimEigo, but unfortunately the set is now out of print. Manga Entertainment has released Macross Plus and Macross II on DVD. Macross 7 and Macross Zero are not available in the U.S.

Q: Is there a subtitled version of Do You Remember Love?
A:
Not at the moment. We have spoken about this with AnimEigo's CEO, Robert Woodhead. He stated that the rights to the movie are in dispute, and negotiating for them has been difficult. If that ever changes in the future, he will make an announcement on his website.

Zoids
Q: Will you make a Zoids section?
A:
This is probably the most frequently asked question now. No, we will not make a Zoids mecha or episode review section. We don't like the series and have no desire to make any section for it. As the final word: there will NEVER be any Zoids on this site. If you like it that's fine, and we're sure there are good sites out there devoted to the series.
