Introduction

Well, it seems Bandai has taken a liking to the main mobile suits from Char’s Counterattack and released them as improved EMSiAs. This Gundam here has needed an update really badly and we finally have it! Now on to the review!

Head

The Gundam’s head is connected to a neck piece with a ball joint which in turn is connected to a hinge which is connected to a ball joint that finally connects into the torso. This somewhat complicated use of joints allows the Gundam a very nice range of movement in all ranges. With this, he also sports good paint applications. His head is white with brown panel lines. His chin is red and his crest is yellow with a black middle piece and green eyes and cameras. His neck and connectors are gray too. Another wonderful thing on this head is the sculpt. The entire thing is the right size and has very minute details in it. Even the cameras on the head are sculpted in there!

Torso

The torso of this Gundam is ball-jointed in two places allowing it a very good degree of articulation. Everything is sculpted well with individual boosters connected with ball joints and the Large Beam Saber and Fin Funnel connectors can swivel around too. Along with this, the side waist armor is connected with a ball joint while the front and back waist armor are normal so they may warp if moved in one place for a long time. Paint-wise, the top torso is black with the bottom being white. The cockpit door and crotch area are red and there’s a little camera on the top left of the torso that is green. On the back, the rear waist armor has red areas on it along with the boosters, vents, “V” on the crotch, and areas on Funnel and Saber connectors being yellow. Also, one odd thing is that, along with the panel lines, the insides of some of the boosters are brown while the back main boosters are yellow. I guess they didn’t want it to contrast with the black backpack or something. Also, the main boosters are silver on the outside.

Arms

The arms are connected to the torso with a very complicated combination of joints. A hinge is stuck into the torso with a ball joint that connects to a square piece of armor that fits into the hole in the torso, so basically it allows that piece to swivel up but when down, looks like the rest of the torso. From there, there’s a piece that connects to the shoulder with a ball joint and a hinge for the shoulder armor. After that, there’s a swivel right under the shoulder and a double jointed elbow a bit farther down. Past that is the ball-jointed hand connection. Past that, the detail is superb! All the little lines and boosters are present and the Beam Saber holder on the left arm is done very well and is a great improvement from the last one! The back piece pulls back and a hinge that’s connected to the Beam Saber rotates out to allow the Gundam to pose grabbing his Beam Saber! Along with that, there’s a clamp down in the holder to secure the Saber!

Now, once again, the paint detailing on this EMSiA are great! The arms are white with brown panel lines and brown for the insides of the boosters. The outsides of the boosters are yellow along with the front of the holder. The holder is black and all the joints and connectors are gray like the rest of the EMSiA. A neat addition is Amuro’s symbol on the left shoulder armor piece.

Legs

The legs of this EMSiA are connected to the waist with ball joints and have swivel joints right under the ball joints to rotate the legs around. Down further, the knees are double jointed and connect to the lower leg with a ball joint for added articulation! The feet connect to a gray piece with a ball joint which then in turn connects to the lower leg with another ball joint to give the feet some great articulation! Also, the little gripping pieces at the front and back of each foot can swivel out which was a very neat addition!

The paint is great once again with the legs being white with gray connectors and joints and black on the feet and sides of the legs. The thrusters are yellow with brown inside and the rear leg thrusters are silver on the outside. Also, both legs have brown panel lines going down them. The sculpt is dead on and proportional also.

Weapons and Accessories

Hands- The now standard 6 hands (fists, open, and trigger) all do their jobs fine and have some great detail that is uncommon for most MSiA. The 3 uncommon hands here are the Open Palm type and 1 that is holding Char’s escape pod in it. The Open Palm hands look great but the pod hand looks odd because the pod is bigger than it should be. However, this may be a problem from the animators and not Bandai because, if I recall, the pod was a bit bigger when n Gundam was holding it. All of the hands are gray with white and the pod is red.

Large and small beam sabers- The Large Beam Saber handle features a swiveling top that rotates out when the beam is out which is a first for the n Gundam. The beams are both transparent pink much like the normal Beam Saber’s and fit well in their designated holes. The Large Beam Saber fits into the hole on the backpack a certain way so that it doesn’t rotate around or fall out easy. My only word of advice here is keep a really good eye on that small beam because, although it fits in the hilt fine, it may fall out on accident and you may not ever find it again. Regarding the normal Beam Saber, there are two hilts that come with this Gundam here. One is to store in the arm and the other to be combined with the beam. All the hilts are white by the way.

Hyper bazooka- This black and white Bazooka features some nice red missiles sticking out the back of it and gray for the connector and handle. There’s also a green camera by the connector and one at the front. A neat thing this one does is that the handle can swivel up when it’s stored on the back by sliding the connector in the middle of the backpack.

Beam rifle- The Beam Rifle looks good and has a fair amount of detail. It is white with black on the top.

Fin funnels and connectors- The new Fin Funnels here are all white with black backs and yellow for the thruster with brown in the middle. They all have double hinges on either side of the thruster to allow them to close up in attack mode and there are holes in the sides to allow the gray connectors to hold them together. The connectors do an OK job at it but they may fall off if moved a decent amount. This time around, they are also more detailed.

Shield- The Shield is much more detailed with the red missiles present and various parts a bit more like the show. The Shield is white with black on the inside and a gray connector. There’s also an insignia on the front with a green eye inside said insignia. The connector fits into grooves in the arms of n Gundam and doesn’t me out very easily. The connector itself is connected to the Shield with a ball joint for added maneuverability.

Conclusion

Overall, this is a wonderful figure and despite the big pod or the wanting-to-fall-off Fin Funnels, this is a superb EMSiA. You’ll regret not picking this up so get it now!

Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
