Technical and Historical Notes

The Vosgulov class submarine gives ZAFT underwater supremacy during the Bloody Valentine War. The Vosgulov class is armed with 12 anti-air missile pods, as well as 12 torpedo tubes. Its storage space allows it to act as a mobile base. The Vosgulov class can hold up to four underwater mobile suits which can be launched through two underwater bays. Three vertical catapults allow it to launch three regular mobile suits, and two smaller ones can launch support craft such as the Guul. Although the submarine can deploy its underwater suits while submerged, it must rise to the surface to launch mobile suits from its vertical catapults. One such ship, the Cousteau, serves as the home base for Athrun Zala and his team when they are assigned to chase the Earth Alliance ship Archangel across the Pacific Ocean in C.E. 71. During the Second Bloody Valentine War, the submarine Nyiragongo is assigned to escort the battleship Minerva, but is destroyed in battle.
