Technical and Historical Notes

While the Zeonic Company is developing their YMS-07A Prototype Gouf to replace the aging MS-06J Zaku II Ground Combat Type during the One Year War, the military engineers of Zeon's Earth Attack Force are also working on their own competing land combat mobile suit design. Their YMS-08A, known simply as the "High Mobility Prototype," is similar in many respects to Zeonic's Prototype Gouf, including the advantageous new leg thrusters to make possible jet-assisted jumps. Eight units are built for testing, but their cost proves too high for the limited increase in performance they demonstrate. Its development is later merged into Zeonic's Prototype Gouf development program, with the eight YMS-08As eventually being relegated to combat duty.
