Technical and Historical Notes

Following the testing of the RGC-80 Prototype GM Cannon, the Earth Federation Forces quickly follow up with the final RGC-80 GM Cannon, correcting the problems encountered in the test model. Put into production in late UC 0079, the production model GM Cannon mounts only one rocket-launching 240mm cannon, complemented by heavier armor on the legs to offset the recoil. Being a derivative of the standard RGM-79 GM, the GM Cannon can also carry the same hand weapons and shields as its close-combat sibling. Six units are originally produced, taking part in the EFF's offensive to take back North America. After the recapture of California Base, more units are produced, scattered to all parts of the Earth Sphere as the EFF offensive drives Zeon off of Earth and into its home territory in space. GM Cannon units see action in North America and North Africa, as well as with the White Dingo Team in Australia. As the battlefield shifts to space, the EFF creates a space use variant, the RGC-80S GM Cannon Space Assault Type. Some units deployed to the Thunderbolt Sector in Side 4 have been upgraded to utilize the Core Block System with a Core Fighter that functions as a pilot escape vehicle. After the One Year War, the EFF create an upgraded successor, the RGC-83 GM Cannon II. However, the original GM Cannon remains in service as late as UC 0087.
