Technical and Historical Notes

In UC 0075, Zimmad Company and Zeonic Company compete for a contract to mass produce a mobile suit for the Principality of Zeon. Zimmad’s EMS-04 Zudah loses to the design that is mass produced as the MS-05B Zaku I. The reason: a fatal flaw in the EMS-04’s high-performance engine that causes it to explode when overexerted. Zimmad goes back to the drawing board and rolls out the improved EMS-10 Zudah in UC 0079. Four units are assigned to the 603rd Technical Evaluation Unit on the Jotunheim for testing and use in Zeon propaganda against the Earth Federation Forces. When a unit is destroyed during testing, engineer Oliver May discovers that the EMS-10 has mostly cosmetic upgrades and the fatal flaw of the EMS-04 is still present. Jean Luc Duvall’s unit is later destroyed while defending Zeon survivors escaping into space following the loss at the Battle of Odessa. Because the Jotunheim lacks a regular mobile suit company, the remaining Zudahs are kept in service through the end of the war, with their pilots making sure not to over accelerate.
