Technical and Historical Notes

The RX-77-1A Guncannon A is an early version of the Earth Federation's V Project RX-77-2 Guncannon mobile suit. The Guncannon A is designed as a mid-range fire support unit. It is armed with a pair of back-mounted cannons, a vulcan gun, missile pod and beam rifle. The Guncannon A is given thick armor instead of standard close range weaponry such as the beam saber used by the RX-78-2 Gundam. This causes a natural weight increase in the unit, which in turn causes the mobility to drop. Since the Federation engineers require thick armor and good mobility, the proposal is brought back to the drawing board.
