Technical and Historical Notes

During the One Year War, the Earth Federation Forces' Pegasus class revolutionizes battleship design. Whereas existing battleships pre-date mobile suits, the ships of the Pegasus class are designed as mobile suit carriers, with internal hangars and launch catapults housed in its "leg" sections. The Pegasus class also features the Minovsky craft system, which allows the ship to make atmospheric re-entry and fly unassisted on Earth. Several Pegasus class ships are introduced during and after the One Year War, but design changes result in many of the ships having radically different appearances. The Albion is launched in October UC 0083, and though similar in many respects to the other ships of the class, it boasts some design improvements. These improvements include upgraded armaments like anti-air/ground laser guns, as well as a laser rocket system that can be used to break free from the Moon's gravity well. The Albion is dispatched under the command of Capt. Eiphar Synapse in to pick up two prototype mobile suits from Anaheim Electronics: the RX-78GP01 Gundam "Zephyranthes" and the RX-78GP02A Gundam "Physalis". Both mobile suits are taken to Australia's Torrington Base for full gravity testing as part of the secret Gundam Development Project.

Unbeknownst to the Federation, Zeon remnants commanded by Aiguille Delaz learn of the existence of the secret mobile suits and plan to steal them as part of Operation Stardust. Zeon ace pilot Anavel Gato infiltrates the Torrington Base and steals the GP02A from the Albion's mobile suit hangar. With rookie pilot Kou Uraki in control of the GP01, the Albion is assigned by Gen. John Kowen to pursue Gato and retrieve the GP02A. The Albion pursues Gato to the Kinbareid diamond mine used by remnant Zeon forces in Africa, but Gato escapes into space with an H.L.V. The Albion follows Gato into space and docks at Von Braun City when Delaz makes a public speech to show the GP02A as an example of the Federation's hypocrisy. Afterwards, the Albion patrols the area around Confeito during the Federation Forces naval review. Gato strikes at the fleet with the GP02A's nuclear armament, inflicting severe damage. Afterwards, the Albion docks at the Anaheim Electronics ship La Vie En Rose to hijack the new RX-78GP03 "Dendrobium Orchis" and "Stamen" components in an attempt to stop a Zeon colony drop. Operation Stardust ends with the Delaz Fleet successfully dropping the colony on North America. In subsequent courts-martial, Capt. Synapse is sentenced to death, while Kou is sentenced to a year in prison. The Albion's fate is unknown, but many of its crew are transferred to the Federation's newly formed Titans task force, charged with hunting down Zeon remnants.
