Technical and Historical Notes

During the One Year War, the Earth Federation Forces' Pegasus class revolutionizes battleship design. Whereas existing battleships pre-date mobile suits, the ships of the Pegasus class are designed as mobile suit carriers, with internal hangars and launch catapults housed in its "leg" sections. The Pegasus class also features the Minovsky craft system, which allows the ship to make atmospheric re-entry and fly unassisted on Earth. Several Pegasus class ships are introduced during and after the One Year War, but design changes result in many of the ships having radically different appearances. On December 19, UC 0079, the Gray Phantom is dispatched inside Side 6's Libot Colony to respond to an attack by Zeon's Cyclops Team. An MS-18E Kämpfer wipes out the Gray Phantom's Scarlet Team before it is destroyed by the prototype RX-78NT-1 Gundam "Alex." In November UC 0083, the Gray Phantom participates in a Federation Forces naval review at Confeito when Anavel Gato of Zeon's Delaz Fleet launches a devastating nuclear attack. The Gray Phantom survives the attack, but at some point afterward it crashes on Earth, and its wreckage serves as a base for Zeon remnants that launch an attack on Australia's Torrington Base in UC 0096.
