G Gundam

Mobile Fighter G Gundam

In 1994, Mobile Fighter G Gundam premiered on Japanese TV for the 15th anniversary of Gundam. Unlike all the series before it, G Gundam was the first to be set in an alternate universe. In the Future Century (FC) timeline, the wealthy have abandoned the polluted Earth to live in space colonies. To prevent the outbreak of war, the Gundam Fight tournament is held every four years. Each nation's representative Gundam Fighter competes in combat on Earth, and the last one standing is the winner, allowing their colony to rule the galaxy for the next four years. The manga adaptation, drawn by Koichi Tokita, ran alongside the TV series. The manga adaptation is also home to the super deformed Go for it, Domon! parody comic strips, which Tokita continued later on into the manga adaptation of Gundam Wing. In 2003, TOKYOPOP released the three volume adaptation in the U.S., but it's now out of print.
