Zone of the Enders, Dolores, i

Shortly after the runaway success of the PS2 video game, Konami and Sunrise banded together to release two follow-up anime series in 2001: the Zone of the Enders: 2167 Idolo OVA and Zone of the Enders: Dolores, i TV series. While ZOE: Idolo depicted events before the PS2 game, ZOE: Dolores, i took place before and after the game. Directed by Tetsuya Watanabe (ZOE: Idolo), ZOE: Dolores, i is setup around a family values-type theme, but it still holds true to the mystical nature that centers around Metatron and the war does remain rampant throughout the series. The story is centered around James Links, a middle-aged trucker and husband of the supposedly deceased Metatron scientist Rachel Links. With little money to support himself, and a dysfunctional family life, James takes on transporting a mysterious object from Mars to Earth. His mysterious cargo turns out to be Dolores, an orbital frame that possesses personality traits like a human teenager. Chaos ensures, and James soon finds himself dodging both the warring factions of the UNSF and BAHRAM with Dolores and uncovering a strange conspiracy, all the while trying to pick up his family life. The series is available on DVD from ADV Films.
