While eating lunch, Fuu looks at the orb Ferio gave her and thinks of him. Umi recalls how Ferio said it would grant a wish and tries to use it to wish to go home and to win her fencing tournament. The other two remind her that the tournament has already passed but Umi is sure Cephiro will make time slower. Umi passes the orb to Hikaru, who wishes she could see her dog. Another earthquake hits and Umi laments that Cephiro is falling apart but they haven't become Magic Knights yet. Fuu points out they don't know how to become them and Mokona connects them to Clef. Clef explains they need to revive the Rune-God and that Mokona knows where it is. A beam of light from Mokona's forehead shows them where to go and Fuu makes a wish before they head off. Ferio hears the girls' wishes through the orb's twin and is embarrassed when he hears Fuu wishing for his safety. He hears a noise and comes across Ascot summoning a monster. After hearing Ascot mention the Magic Knights, Ferio tries to get on Ascot's good side. He offers to lure the Magic Knights into a trap and Ascot eventually agrees. The Knights make it to a peaceful village where Ferio greets them. He offers to treat them to a meal while Ascot watches on. At the restaurant Ferio has a lady tell the girls of the monster who lives in the desert outside the village. They decide to go after the monster to help the village. They leave Mokona at the entrance to the desert and venture in. Ferio rejoins Ascot and mentally apologizes to the Knights for using them. Ascot's monster sneaks up on the girls from behind.
The monster blows them away before they can attack. Ascot and Ferio head in for a closer look. Ferio asks about the monster's weakness and Ascot explains it can only move in the desert and follows targets using sound. He relays this info to the girls using the orbs and uses the recordings of the girls' voices to lure the monster away. He throws his orb away to lose the monster, but Ascot finds him. The girls reunite with Mokona and Hikaru is certain Ferio has his reasons for what he did. Ascot sends a message that he has Ferio hostage and Umi thinks it's another trap. Hikaru reminds her that Ferio saved them earlier but Fuu says they shouldn't go until they think of a way to beat the monster. That night Umi sees that Fuu has left. Fuu confronts the monster but it blows her away, knocking off her glasses and making her drop her sword. The monster lets Ferio go and he goes to Fuu's side. He asks why she came for him after he tricked her but she's not sure herself. He takes Fuu's orb and uses the recordings to lure the monster away. Fuu cries out Ferio's name as he's about to be eaten, which causes the monster to go after her. Her sword rises from the sand and grows longer. She uses it to cut the monster in half, killing it. Hikaru and Umi arrive and Ferio gives Fuu her orb back, explaining that it's a magic item that sends words. He tells her to call him if she needs him before running off. Umi scolds Fuu for being reckless and thinks it's unfair her weapon evolved because of it. Ascot cries over the death of his friend and curses the Magic Knights.
This episode sees the return of Ferio, who tries to make his way into Zagato's inner circle by kissing up to Ascot. He almost sacrifices the Magic Knights in order to do so, but he's too good a person to let that happen. Ferio acting like a goof is pretty amusing and his relationship with Fuu is rather sweet. Her feelings for him cause her sword to evolve and she saves the day. Unfortunately it's falling into a formula of "girls have trouble beating monster, they get a power up, and they defeat the monster easily." It'll likely be repeated for Hikaru and Umi too, but at least each girl is getting their time in the spotlight.
