Episode 36: Fuu versus Aska! Life or Death Archery Match

Review by Peter Laliberte

August 13, 2016

Summary

Aska introduces to herself and asks if Fuu is a person of Cephiro. Fuu explains she's from another world and Aska wonders if she's strong. Fuu denies that and says she fights with the Rune-God because it accepted her. Aska demands the Rune-God but Fuu says she needs it to protect Cephiro. Aska still wants it so Fuu suggests an archery match. If Aska wins she gets the Rune-God and if Fuu wins she is set free. Aska agrees, claiming no one can beat her in archery. Hikaru wakes up and hears Presea's voice. Presea reminds her to hold onto her wish and look at the light. Hikaru rekindles her will to fight and heads into the light but Nova knocks her away. Lantis runs through the castle, feeling the dark presence coming closer and Hikaru's becoming faint. The djinn block Umi's way and she fights them while wondering what's happening to Hikaru. The djinn attack with blasts of air but one of Ascot's monsters protects Umi.

Umi asks Ascot why he's there and he says he just wants to save Umi. Together they fend off the djinn. Tatra thinks Ascot is cute and teases Tarta for not having a boyfriend. Fuu is taken into a room and told the contest will be decided by who can hit the most targets, which look like the djinn. Fuu and Aska receive their bows and Chang Ang wonders if it's okay to give Fuu a weapon. Aska says it's fine because she's already taken care of it. Sang Yung gets bashful when Fuu thanks him and that makes Aska angry. Fuu easily shoots the targets down, but Aska is too disgusted by them. It's a landslide victory for Fuu, but Aska has a group of ninjas try to capture her. She fends them off with her magic and arrows and Sang Yung is impressed she isn't wounding anyone. Fuu hits the basket holding the targets, which swarm the ninjas. Aska gets in her way and summons a floating sword.

Commentary

Not a bad episode, but it's pretty unremarkable. Nova is still messing with Hikaru, Umi is still fighting the djinn, and Fuu didn't really get anywhere with Aska. Unsurprisingly Aska is a sore loser, but it was somewhat amusing that her choice of targets were her undoing. Fuu handles things with her usual calmness and I'm sure she'll have no problem dealing with a spoiled child. It's just not particularly exciting. Definitely needed some Ferio.
