Episode 32: Umi and Fuu & Fahren and Chizeta

Review by Peter Laliberte

August 13, 2016

Summary

One of the djinn grins creepily and even Fuu admits the FTO was easier on the eyes. Tarta gloats but Tatra would rather enjoy some tea. Tarta scolds her and they do a dance which the djinn mimic. The djinn charge but Umi and Fuu dodge and Selece explains what the djinn are. The djinn summon swords and clash with the Rune-Gods. They start dancing again, much to Umi and Aska's disgust. Fuu manages to restrain the djinn with her magic but they soon break free. Hikaru wants to go help but the others stop her. Hikaru laments her lack of ability to do anything. The djinn continue their offensive and Tarta brags about their power. Tatra says their opponents are likely just disgusted with their spirits but Tarta doesn't get it because she thinks the djinn are handsome. Fuu wonders what the dance is for but Umi just thinks it's weird. They ready themselves for another attack.

The djinn restrain the Rune-Gods and Tarta orders them brought back. Aska doesn't like this so she summons an illusion that looks like a giant Sang Yung. It frees Umi and Fuu and casually throws the djinn aside. Tatra finds the giant Sang Yung cute but Tarta isn't so amused. They do another dance and the djinn kick the giant Sang Yung, releasing the Rune-Gods. Umi and Fuu look on in amazement and the Rune-Gods explain that one needs a strong heart to control spirits and illusions. Fuu thinks one of them could become the new Pillar. Aska orders the giant Sang Yung to bring the Rune-Gods to her and it manages to catch Fuu. Umi's attacks prove useless and the giant blasts her with a huge beam. Umi is knocked out of the sky and captured by the djinn. Hikaru and the others watch on helplessly as Umi and Fuu are taken. Presea asks Hikaru if she wants to fix her sword even at the risk of her life and Hikaru says yes. The princess's crown continues to glow. Nova asks Debonair if she can play with Hikaru again and Debonair says soon, because the door for them is within Cephiro. Nova says she found a new emotion in Hikaru's heart, something different from the feelings for her teammates. Nova says she wants it because she is Hikaru. Lantis senses the evil grow stronger. Eagle notices the Knights are separated and identifies the one at the castle as Hikaru.

Commentary

The cool fights from previous episodes really make these lackluster ones stand out. The first half mostly consisted of still images with speed lines in the background as they continually crossed swords. Umi and Aska's reactions to the djinn were funny at first but quickly got old and it wasn't until the giant Sang Yung showed up did things become fun again. As expected, Umi and Fuu aren't that great without Hikaru around so they get themselves captured. Now they'll get some quality time with the enemy, much like Hikaru did with Autozam. Hikaru is going to get her sword fixed but apparently it might not end well for her.
