Episode 28: Hikaru and Lantis's Dangerous Journey
Review by Peter Laliberte

Hikaru slices through some monsters, but they regenerate so she incinerates them with her magic. She notes the monsters are stronger and Lantis explains that the citizen's fear after losing the Pillar creates strong monsters. Primera asks Lantis why he decided to accompany Hikaru and then mocks her for being so slow. Hikaru notices Lantis is matching her pace. A monster sneaks up on Lantis but he easily destroys it to Hikaru's amazement. Umi and Fuu are worried about Hikaru so they ask Clef about Lantis. Clef explains that Lantis was the captain of Emeraude's guard before he disappeared. It starts raining so Hikaru and Lantis take shelter under a rock. Some rain still drips on Hikaru so Lantis brings her under his cape. Hikaru asks if he's ever seen a storm before and Lantis says he has while travelling. Hikaru asks if he ever got lonely while travelling but Primera interrupts because she doesn't like the mood. She claims Lantis is hers but Mokona eats her and spits her out. The rain stops and something appears in the sky.
The FTO descends and lands before them. He knows Hikaru is alone since he took the Knight's biological data when they last met. Hikaru asks him to give up on becoming the Pillar, but Eagle says his country needs the system. Hikaru summons Rayearth and Eagle can't help but be curious about how it works. He notices Lantis and after some hesitation attacks Hikaru. Hikaru fires a Flame Arrow but Eagle blocks it with a barrier. The FTO slices through Rayearth's shield and causes her to crash. Eagle asks for her surrender but Hikaru fights on. She manages to break through the barrier and cuts off the FTO's arm. Eagle chastises himself for underestimating her because she's a girl and charges at her seriously. Hikaru throws the remains of Rayearth's shield at Eagle and uses the opening to get above him. They clash swords until Lantis fires a blast between them and tells them to stop. He tells Eagle that the Pillar isn't almighty but Eagle says getting the Pillar is his mission. Eagle fires a shot that captures Rayearth and knocks Hikaru out. Lantis tries to stop him but he's attacked by Alcyone. She declares it useless to fight because everything belongs to Lady Debonair. Eagle gets away due to Alcyone's interference, so Lantis asks her who Debonair is. Alcyone mistakes him for Zagato because of his voice and attacks in a frenzy. Umi and Fuu sense that Hikaru is in danger as Eagle carries her away.
This season hasn't been particularly spectacular so far, but this episode was a definite improvement. Hikaru spends some quality time with Lantis and despite his stoicism he really is a softy. He and Hikaru have a nice mood going but Primera just had to ruin it. Thankfully Mokona is around to dish out some comedic punishment. Eagle also interrupts and we get a pretty cool fight out of it. Eagle is definitely more skilled but Hikaru doesn't make it easy for him. Lantis tries to break it up and while his presence makes Eagle uneasy, he also distracts Hikaru and it gets her captured. I guess even magic robot gods aren't immune to electric shocks to the cockpit.
