Ascot summons a monster over the ocean. The Knights arrive at the ocean and Mokona indicates that there's a Rune-God down there. Mokona summons a winged platform that flies over the water before diving in. It's encased in a bubble and they sink until they come across a shrine. Umi's body glows as they get closer to it. Upon entering Umi walks off as if possessed. Hikaru and Fuu look around but find nothing. They search for Umi and find a huge door. It opens and inside they find Umi standing before a dragon. Hikaru tries to go to her but Mokona stops her. The dragon identifies itself as the Rune-God Selece before he blows Hikaru, Fuu, and Mokona out of the room. They are unable to get back inside and Ascot's monster appears before them. From inside the monster, Ascot accuses the girls of killing his friends and attacks. He easily blasts them away and wonders why Alcyone had such a hard time. Hikaru asks if he's Alcyone's friend but Ascot says all his friends are monsters. Hikaru attacks with her magic but it's ineffective and she gets blown away again. Ascot says the shrine will be their graves.
Selece asks Umi to prove herself worthy of him by showing her strength of heart. Fuu notices that Ascot's voice is coming from the gem on the monster's forehead, so Hikaru attacks it. The monster falls and Ascot is ejected from it. He calls the girls cruel for doing that to his friend. He says that others have told him the monsters can't be his friends but they're his friends regardless. Hikaru scolds him for making his friends attack them. The monster recovers and starts attacking everything, Ascot included. It breaks into the room Umi and Selece are in. Hikaru and Fuu tell Umi they'll hold it off while she revives the Rune-God. Umi goes to help but Selece tells her to leave them. He tells her to flee because she can't beat it. He says she needs to survive and beat Zagato, even if she's alone. She says she can't do that and attacks the monster. Hikaru and Fuu support her and Umi declares that if it means leaving them behind she doesn't need a Rune-God. Selece glows and transforms into a giant robot. Selece blows the monster away in one shot. Umi asks why he helped when she failed his test, but he says she did by caring for her comrades. Selece says she's not ready to don him yet and he'll reappear when she's ready. He goes into Umi, causing all their armor to evolve. The girls celebrate as Zagato watches on.
This episode is essentially more of the same, but this time it involves giant robots and that instantly makes everything better! After several episodes of filler we get back on track here with the revival of the first Rune-God. The girls still have trouble against the monster, but in this case it's more credible that they have a hard time with it compared to the others. The dramatic tension is a lot better too. Ascot finally gets called out on his nonsense of using his so called 'friends' to do his dirty work so we'll have to see what happens to him after this. Even though the girls now have a giant magical dragon robot in their arsenal, it's a shame they can't use him yet. And there's still two more where he came from.
