Summary

Three Eagers and two Grabs transport a capsule at night. The capsule accidentally breaks, and a glowing egg-like form falls out of it and lands inside a ruined village. Elsewhere, Ray tells Stick that it's almost dawn and wants to know how much longer they're going to be looking. Stick says they're almost at Point K, the target point for the Mars Base's 7th Division. Houquet asks what Point K is, and Stick explains that it's the location where 2,000 Legiosses and 600 shuttles and cargo ships have landed. Point K is supposed to serve as the Earth base for the attack on Reflex Point, and Mint jokes that there must be lots of single guys. Ray adds that they might not even be there and asks Stick why the Inbit would leave such a large unit of soldiers alone. Stick defiantly answers that 6,000 people won't be defeated by the Inbit, and that if even one is alive, he won't leave that point. Stick then rushes ahead to the valley and is the first to reach Point K. Everyone else catches up, and as the fog clears Stick sees nothing but wrecked ships and Legiosses. Stick can't believe it and calls out if anyone is there before firing his gun into the air. He then falls to his knees and begins to weep. Everyone makes camp, and when Houquet asks Jim how he can eat so much at a time like this, and he answers that it's because this is more than he can bear. Ray takes food over to Stick and tells him to cheer up before he makes everyone else depressed too, but Stick says nothing. Houquet wants to leave the depressing place, but Yellow thinks they should stay for a while and search for HBT or weapons. Yellow asks Stick for help, but he completely ignores everyone. Houquet and Ray then drive off to get away from the depressing atmosphere. They find a small village next to Point K and drive toward it, unaware that they've been spotted by the Inbit. They drive through the streets and ask if anyone is there. They then switch to searching houses on foot, and Houquet figures that the Inbit killed everyone because of their proximity to Point K. Houquet goes outside the house and finds a strange, sticky substance. Ray has a feeling he's seen it before and hears a noise inside the house. He goes into another room and finds a trail of sticky goo that leads him to a naked woman. Ray is embarrassed and turns around, asking the woman if she's cold or has clothes. The woman responds only by repeating what Ray says, and Houquet then walks in. She asks Ray what he did, and Ray says he just found the woman. Houquet gives the woman her jacket, and Ray calls Houquet over to talk. He thinks it's all a bit strange, and Houquet wonders if the woman has amnesia. They drive off on their bikes and are watched by Grabs, but an Eager stops them from attacking.

Mint finds a pendant in the rubble and tosses it away when Stick says nothing. Yellow returns in the Eta Legioss and tells Stick to cheer up. Jim pulls up in his jeep and reports that he found some new fighters he's never seen before. He says that they can combine with the Legioss to form an armored fighter, and Stick says they're called TREADs. Jim then shows Yellow and Mint the TREAD manual, and Yellow announces that he's found two damaged Legiosses that can be repaired. Mint comments to Stick that they're like a military unit now, and Stick angrily asks what difference five fighters could make. Yellow tells Stick that he's their leader and they're traveling with him because they want to. He then asks what will happen if Stick loses himself and reminds Stick about what he said regarding soldiers always keeping orders. Yellow then leaves with Jim and Mint to examine the Legiosses. Stick sees the pendant in he distance and pulls out the holo message from Marlene. He recalls the destruction of her ship, as well as Jonathan's dying words. Everyone returns to camp, and Stick is surprised by the sight of the mystery woman. They assume that she has amnesia and that the Inbit did something to her. Yellow thinks they should take the woman to a doctor, and suddenly she begins to shake. A group of Grabs and Eagers then appear, but Stick stands there and does nothing. The Eagers open fire on Yellow, Houquet and Ray, and the woman stands out in the open. Jim and Mint try to pull her back as the Eager opens fire. The woman begins to scream, and Stick thinks of Marlene and is galvanized into action. He jumps into the Eta Legioss and begins firing missiles at the Eagers. He destroys two Eagers, and Ray is tosses off his bike by an attack from a Grab. The last Eager chases Stick, and Ray hops into the TREAD to help out. A Grab sneaks up behind the TREAD, but Ray manages to activate the engines and knock the Grab away. Stick fires at the Eager as Ray struggles to stay in the air. The TREAD crashes through one of the wrecked ships and slams into a Grab. After the battle, Stick recommends they leave before more Inbit arrive. Stick assigns Yellow to the TREAD and Houquet and Ray to the Legiosses. As they leave, Mint notes that Stick has become more cheerful, and Jim answers that he's gone back to his old self. As they drive away, an Eager scans the woman.

Commentary

This episode introduces the seventh member to the group, evoking a reference to Akira Kurosawa's classic film Seven Samurai. It also focuses on another of Mospeada's main themes: the clash between Stick's naive ideals about the military versus reality. Despite all that he's seen since the start of the series, he somehow still naively believed that 6,000 soldiers could gather together in one point and escape the notice of the Inbit. Well, it was pretty obvious that wasn't going to happen, and the truth came as a huge shock to Stick. The mysterious woman is clearly the Inbit that hatched out of that glowing energy egg thing, and she can sense their presence. For now, everyone assumes that she has amnesia caused by an Inbit attack. Aside from a new character, the team finally gets some upgrades with the introduction of two additional Legiosses and the transforming TREAD fighter. The journey to Reflex Point will be just a bit easier now with some new weapons to help fight the Inbit.
