Review by Chris Guanche

October 23, 2016

Summary

Mikazuki tells Julieta to get out of his way, and Isurugi sees that the Reginlaze has been completed. Sandoval's Hugo fires its shot anchor claws, and Mikazuki kicks Julieta away so that he can again chase after Sandoval. The two suits rush toward Sandoval and are blocked by his two wingmen. Akihiro wants to fight Gjallarhorn, but Orga reminds everyone that their goal is to capture Sandoval. Mikazuki tries to fight Sandoval, but his two wingmen defend him. Julieta rushes in to attack and is captures from both sides by shot anchor claws. One of the Hugos keeps firing at Mikazuki, and Julieta purges her shoulder armor to break free. One of the Hugos is hit by incoming sniper fire from Iok's Reginlaze. Julieta tells Iok to shoot only at the Barbatos Lupus because he's in her way. Isurugi's Schwalbe Graze slams into Julieta's Reginlaze so that Mikazuki can focus on Sandoval. She breaks free quickly, and Mikazuki uses the anchor claws from one Hugo to swing it into the other. Isurugi takes down one of the Hugos while Mikazuki dodges small missiles from Sandoval. Mikazuki slams the Hugo into the hull of a pirate ship and starts bashing it with his maces until Sandoval ejects from the head cockpit and surrenders. A signal flare is fired, and the pirates are ordered to disarm now that Sandoval has been captured. Sandoval is brought aboard the Hotarubi and says his pirates aren't the only ones who hate Tekkadan, but Orga doesn't care. On Saisei, McMurdo meets with Naze and Jasley to discuss the results of the battle. Jasley doesn't think Tekkadan deserves much credit because they only won with Gjallarhorn's help, but McMurdo wants to give them a reward to match the risk they took. He decides to let them administer a new half-metal mine under development on Mars, but Jasley argues that job should go to Teiwaz. McMurdo thinks that Tekkadan now has a reputation, so no one would be stupid enough to attack a mine with their flag on it. McMurdo asks Naze to deliver the news to Orga. Outside, Naze tells Amida that Orga isn't good at playing politics and will have to overcome that, or every gain of theirs will earn them more enemies. At the Gjallarhorn Ares station, Isurugi tells Major Proto Arae that he's been officially appointed as Mars chief of staff. Isurugi mentions that McGillis is on his way, so he wants Proto to take care of trivial matters. Hush confronts Mikazuki in the mess hall and declares that he wants to pilot a mobile suit. Eugene interjects that they can't give one to a newbie like Hush, but he wants Mikazuki to ask Orga. Mikazuki asks Hush why he wants to pilot a mobile suit, and Hush answers that he wants to be stronger than him, so Mikazuki agrees to his request. Atra visits Kudelia at the Sakura Farm. Gyojan nervously calls Nobliss' office and is rejected yet again. Gyojan tries to think of his next move, but he's interrupted when Orga and Mikazuki force their way into his office.

Gyojan plays dumb and asks what he can do for the boss of Tekkadan. Orga brings up the attack on the Admoss Company and the attempted assassination of Kudelia by the pirates, but Gyojan denies involvement and babbles while trying to portray himself as a victim. Orga tells Gyojan to stop babbling and pulls out a tablet with a monetary figure demanding double the costs of repairs. Gyojan refuses, so Orga threatens that he knows what'll happen if he doesn't pay. Gyojan calls an associate and asks about Gjallarhorn, but he's told that they won't be helping. The associate is then killed, and Akihiro picks up the phone and answers. Gyojan panics, and Mikazuki pulls out a gun and kills him. At night, Atra finds Kudelia outside and comments on her leaving tomorrow. Kudelia talks about how much work she has to do, and Atra talks about Mikazuki's agricultural research. His reading and writing skills haven't developed as well, and the two reminisce about when Kudelia taught Tekkadan kids how to read and write. Kudelia comments that she has much to learn herself and there must have been a better way to deal with Gyojan to prevent what happened. She says they keep fighting when there's a new problem, but she wants to break the chain of violence to stop there being more Mikazukis or Tekkadans. Cucubita picks Kudelia up in the morning and confirms that Gyojan is dead and the members of Terra Liberionis have been arrested by Gjallarhorn. Kudelia comments that she has bloodied the hands of Tekkadan once again. Ride isn't impressed by the sight of the new half-metal mine, but Naze and Amida explain that in a few years it'll be a huge source of profit for them. Eugene notes that they'll need to hire more people for this work and learn new skills. Ride wonders where Orga is, and Amida comments that he was invited up to Ares. Dexter tells everyone that they need to look at something: an excavated mobile suit. Nadi has a look and comments that it looks like a Gundam Frame. Dexter mentions that another object has been found, but it's too big to be a mobile suit. Orga, Mikazuki and Merribit meet with McGillis, and Orga thanks McGillis for the help in fighting Sandoval. Orga wants to know what McGillis is really up to, and McGillis explains that he wants to reform the corruption in Gjallarhorn and needs more power to do so - more power than Rustal. Orga thinks Tekkadan is too small to deal with that and notes that McGillis' enemies will become Tekkadan's. McGillis offers to keep giving them advantages to overcome those difficulties, and Orga agrees to an alliance.

Commentary

The battle from last episode is concluded with another big win for Tekkadan. Mikazuki shows off his skills in fighting three enemies simultaneously while dealing with a hostile interloper in Julieta. Despite Mikazuki's win, we see that she has skills too, and I don't doubt that they'll be crossing swords again in the future. With the battle over, Tekkadan makes a coordinated move to take down Terra Liberionis. Gyojan tries ineptly to bluff his way out of things and ends up paying with his life. In that entire scene, between his clothing and demeanor, Orga comes off as a yakuza boss performing a shakedown, except that he's in the right. Tekkadan will be making lots of new enemies by allying itself with McGillis. Both Orga and McGillis know that they're using each other for their own goals, but in the end, who is going to outplay whom?
